The Royal Pharmaceutical Society is currently updating the single prescribing competency framework published by the National Prescribing Centre/National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) in 2012. The single framework consolidated all previous competency frameworks developed to support independent and supplementary prescribers.
This is an update of an existing competency framework which is already widely used in practice and was due for review in 2014. A strategic level Project Board consisting of representatives of the Chief Pharmaceutical Officers England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as well as Health Education England, NHS Education for Scotland and NICE is supporting the update of the framework. The framework is being updated using the same tried and tested methodology as all the previous prescribing competency frameworks.
