NMC formal response to Francis report

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has published its formal response to the Francis report, setting out what changes have been made already and what the NMC’s plans are for the future. It says that a duty to comply with any relevant national fundamental standards will be part of the revised Code: a breach of such standards could lead to the nurse or midwife being struck off the register. Consideration will be given to whether a similar provision could be developed in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Work on revising the Code will start this autumn, with a consultation in 2014, with a view to approval in November 2014 and publication in December 2014, so do watch out for news on this.
