MHRA advice for prescribers on anti-epileptic drug switching

It is possible that switching between different anti-epileptic drugs may lead to loss of seizure control or side effects – or at least these effects cannot be ruled out. They can be associated with switching from branded to generic products, or between generics. The MHRA has now published guidance that classifies anti-epileptic drugs into three categories to help prescribers and patients decide whether supply of a specific manufacturer’s product should be maintained.
