CPD Modules

The role of the Association for Prescribers has evolved to provide all prescribers with support and education in order to feel confident in their role.
The Association recognises that the patient is at the heart of every prescriber’s career and that they need to continue improving their standards of care, knowledge and proficiency.

All of the courses below are open to any prescribing health professional (or those who give prescribing advice) including, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physios etc (but would suit those working in primary/community care rather than those based in hospital.) They are particularly useful for those looking to extend their scope of practice. All are available as short courses but they can be used on a ‘pick and mix basis’ to accumulate academic credits towards a Cert/Diploma/MSc in Prescribing Studies.

CPPE launches Prescriber’s guide

  • The Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) has launched a resource to support prescribers to access the most pertinent information relevant to their role.
  • Our Prescribers guide has been developed to support prescribers to update their knowledge, develop their skills and gather evidence of their competence to prescribe.
  • Although the guide has been developed with pharmacist prescribers in mind, other prescribers will find the resource equally helpful.
  • The updated guide is available here https://www.cppe.ac.uk/gateway/prescribing
  • If you were previously registered with the CPPE website using your GPhC number, you should be able to log in using the same password as before.

The role of the DMP in mentoring pharmacist trainee prescribers

Jacqui Kinsey MSc. IPresc. MFRPSII MRPharmS FHEA, Director of Prescribing Education Centre for Professional Development and Lifelong Learning, Keele University. See her webinar on the role of the DMP. It is mainly generic but does also reference the University’s approach to the role of the DMP in mentoring pharmacist trainee prescribers.

This recorded webinar gives some background into the role of the Designated Medical Practitioner (DMP) and what Keele expect from DMPs who support our trainee pharmacist independent prescribers. It also details the support that we give to those who take on this essential role.
